Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) TDS is the sum of the mineral salts
in water and if too high can result in objectionable taste, cloudy
ice, interference with the flavor of foods and beverages and
scale left behind in cookware. Generally speaking, the lower
the TDS the more acceptable the drinking water. TDS of 500 ppm
or more is unacceptable for drinking water. Reverse Osmosis (RO)
process has proven itself as the most practical and cost effective
method of correcting problems caused by high TDS. High TDS content
in water will exhibit a salty or brackish taste.

Our nanofiltration

Sometimes referred to as membrane softening or membrane water
softeners, nanofiltration is an alternative to salt based water
softening. NANO Advantage:
lower investment costs and lower energy costs! Compared to conventional
softening, operation costs are considerably reduced as expensive
regenerations with large salt amounts becoming obsolete. Less
waste water! nano filtration can achieve up to a 75% recovery
whereas reverse osmosis has a 50% recovery. Furthermore, the

The Microline® R.O. System
contains the patented manifold plate which directs the flow of
water through each of the filtration steps. The manifold design
simplifies as it enhances the system by eliminating the need
for individual connections between filtration stages. The Microline®
R.O. System is designed to produce worry–free R.O. water
with less waste. When the holding tank is full, the automatic
shut–off device is triggered and signals the system to automatically
cease production until more water is needed. These technologies
have been the secret to the success of the Microline® R.O.
System.
This undercounter 3 stage water
filtration unit is easy to install (usually takes little more
than an hour). The system comes complete with a space-saving,
2-gallon storage tank and all the necessary fittings, including
a Lead free long-reach faucet and installation manual.
The certified TFC-335 reverse
osmosis unit measures approx.15"H x 12"W x 4"D;
2.0 gallon storage tank is 17" high and 9.5" in diameter;
total system weighs approx. 28 lbs.Includes Water Quality Monitor

How the TFC-335 RO System
works:
Prefiltration: When water first enters the Microline®
R.O. System, it flows through a prefilter that protects the automatic
shut–off and
Membrane from clogging with debris. The job of the prefilter
is to filter outlarger particles such as silt, rust or scale,
extending the life of your R.O.
Membrane and allowing it to reduce impurities*. In the Microline®
T.F.C. System, the prefilter also has activated carbon in it.
Activated carbon is used to reduce chlorine, which is necessary
to protect the refined T.F.C. Membrane.
The Membrane: Water then travels to the operational
center of the system—the Membrane. Here, most particles
too small to be trapped by the prefilter are removed from the
water stream and rinsed to the drain. The Membrane’s microscopic
pores allow Hydrogen and Oxygen molecules through, (and water
is H2O). The majority of the dissolved solids and impurities*
are flushed into the drain’s water stream and exit the system.
All Microline® R.O. Systems have our patented seal on each
Membrane. The seal is designed to assure worry free installation,
simplify system maintenance and reduce your service costs.
The “Final Polish”: After the Membrane, the R.O. water is
routed to the holding tank. Our tank holds approximately 2 gallons
of fresh, clean water and the automatic shut off tells the system
when it’s time to make more. When you turn on the Microline®
faucet and draw water from the holding
tank, it then goes through its final stage of filtration, a carbon
filter, designed to reduce any remaining tastes and odors before
reaching your glass. The carbon imparts the final “sweet”
polish to your water.

The presence of Iron is a very
common water quality problem, particularly in water from deep
wells. Water containing even a significant quantity of iron may
appear clear when drawn, but will rapidly turn red upon exposure
to air. This process is called oxidation, and involves the conversion
of ferrous (dissolved) iron, which is highly soluble, to ferric
(precipitated) iron, which is largely insoluble. The ferric iron
then causes red/brown staining on clothes, fixtures, etc.
Iron concentration is measured in ppm or mg/l (milligrams
per liter, where 1 ppm = 1 mg/l). Staining usually becomes a
problem at concentrations greater than 0.3 ppm.
Manganese is a metal similar to iron which causes
a grey/black stain. It can cause staining in concentrations as
low as 0.05 ppm.
Hydrogen Sulfide is a gas which smells strongly like
rotten eggs. It results from the decay of organic matter with
organic sulphur and the presence of certain types of bacteria.
Even very low concentrations are offensive as well as highly
corrosive (silver tarnishes almost immediately upon contact with
H2S).
Because it is in a gaseous form,
H2S cannot be collected in a sample bottle for laboratory analysis.
Therefore, its presence must be reported when a sample is submitted
for a treatment recommendation.
Low pH Water which contains excess acidity tends to act
aggressively towards plumbing and fixtures, causing corrosion
and staining (i.e.-blue green stains on fixtures from copper
pipes). Relative acidity/alkalinity is measured on the pH scale,
ranging from 0- 1 4, where 7 is neutral, numbers lower than 7
are progressively more acidic, and numbers higher than seven
are increasingly alkaline (basic). The pH value refers not to
the quantity of acidity, but rather to the relative acidity/alkalinity
of a particular sample.
Alkalinity acts as a buffer to
deactivate the acidity, a process called neutralization. For
example, limestone (calcium carbonate) is often applied to soil
to offset the acidity which comes from acid rain and decaying
organic material. The acceptable range for water is 6.5-8.5.
Iron bacteria is generally more common than sulfur
bacteria, simply because iron is abundant in ground water. Iron
bacteria are "oxidizing agents." That is, they combine
iron or manganese dissolved in ground water with oxygen. A side
effect of the process is a foul smelling brown slime which can
coat well screens, pipes, and plumbing fixtures. This slime isn't
a health hazard, but it can cause unpleasant odors, corrode plumbing
equipment, and clog well screens and pipes. If conditions are
right, the bacteria can grow at amazing rates. There are several
signs that may indicate an iron bacteria problem. Water may have
a yellow, red or orange color. Rusty slime deposits may form
in toilet tanks. A strange smell resembling fuel oil, cucumbers,
or sewage may be noticeable. Sometimes the odor will only be
apparent in the morning or after other extended periods of non-use.
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
Total dissolved solids
(TDS) comprise inorganic salts such as potassium, sodium, bicarbonates,
chlorides and sulfates and some small amounts of organic matter
that are dissolved in water. High levels of total dissolved solids
can result in your water having a bitter or salty taste (brackish
water); result in incrustations, films, or precipitates on fixtures;
and corrosion of fixtures.
